It feels like a storm is coming and we don't know how bad it is going to be or how long it is going to last.

I was hoping to find a good map that shows Covid-19 by county across the United States.
Here are some shots from the World Health Organization (WHO):
This graph shows the S curve on the cumulative map. We are still on the rising side of the S curve despite the flattening in February.

Bob wrote me back and said he is waiting for more data if he does one. So far no Covid-19 in Eau Claire county.

We had Irish lamb stew for lunch today. Laurie had made roast lamb for dinner last night with peas, fresh bread, and leftover asparagus cream soup from scratch the night before. The previous night we had had asparagus soup and pizza. She wanted to do a different dish tonight but I convinced her to let me make lamb stew.
In a few months this may be looking really good. Laurie went to the grocery store today and bought more coffee and some more groceries. I told her to get dried beans. I think beans and rice have all the amino acids needed for survival. We started looking for our five gallon water jug in the event that water goes out. Have not found it yet. Laurie hired someone to take some brush off the hill. We did not let him come in. Kurt is coming over to pick up the games, Axis and Allies and Conquest of the Empire. I am putting them on the deck. He is giving blood today.

I bought two computer monitors and set them up in the "music room" after moving some synthesizers out of the way. It turns out they do not have DisplayPort connections which my docking station from work needs. I was able to plug one of them into the HDMI port. I ordered two active DisplayPort to HDMI converters from Amazon. Not sure if that will work. They are supposed to arrive next week but Amazon is now shipping essential items with priority so it may get pushed back. I have the home office going now and used Google Hangouts to meet with some coworkers. I am working on grading papers.

I was watching CBS news on the Roku last night and it switched first to Boston then to San Francisco. They said they had to shut down and clean the New York office due to Covid-19. One of the control towers at Chicago airport shut down due to the virus yesterday.

I had the urge to watch Contagion, then I realized I had already seen it so I guess no need to rent it. I suppose I can just look outside.

I worked out on the Nordic Track today. The exercise routine has been doing a good job of keeping my blood pressure down. My weight is 175.5 lbs today.

The death rate in the United States showed an approximately exponential growth rate through the middle of April to just over 2000 deaths per day, then an approximately linear decline through the rest of April and May to the present rate of about 1000 deaths per day. The curve seems to be curving back up now which could indicate a second wave will be occurring. The CDC changed the colors of the graph a few days ago to blue. Not sure why. Maybe it is to help people with red green color blindness. They also modified the format of the state data on the website so it is now harder to parse. Here are the graphs for today: My latest data and forecast models are at: Spreadsheet Peak date for the USA currently looks to be around April 12. Peak date for Wisconsin currently looks to be around April 20. Remember later peak dates are better for survivability. My model is very simple at this point since it assumes exponential growth at the same rate until the entire population is infected. I may look at a SIR model later if I have time. Laurie is currently taking an inventory of all of our food so we can figure out how long we have. I think we need at least 60 days but I am afraid that we will need 90. We have decreased our coffee to 1 large scoop (usually it is 2 large and 1 small). I have been using the Nordic Track with IFit since we got it in February. Working on the Barcelona series right now. I went to CNN to look at the news and saw how poorly we were doing against the virus. Then I saw a post by a conservative friend linking the the CDC web site showing number of deaths about half of what I had been tracking. It turns out that data had been posted to an alt-right web site and was only based on a limited time period and was lagging behind the other data due to being based on death certificates. Then I went on to Fox news. The main information about the virus was mostly either light hearted or talked about how democratic governors were taking away the rights of citizens. The lead story was on Joe Biden. In order to have combated this virus successfully we would have needed a consistent response from the president, congress, the states, state legislatures, local authorities, and the media.
