I went to CNN to look at the news and saw how poorly we were doing against the virus. Then I saw a post by a conservative friend linking the the CDC web site showing number of deaths about half of what I had been tracking. It turns out that data had been posted to an alt-right web site and was only based on a limited time period and was lagging behind the other data due to being based on death certificates. Then I went on to Fox news. The main information about the virus was mostly either light hearted or talked about how democratic governors were taking away the rights of citizens. The lead story was on Joe Biden.

In order to have combated this virus successfully we would have needed a consistent response from the president, congress, the states, state legislatures, local authorities, and the media. Instead we have inconsistent messages coming from the white house, congress, local authorities, and different media organizations. This will cost peoples lives. People will die because of this inconsistent messaging. The virus could have been stopped but now I see it as too late. Any states that open up now will just see an increase in the virus until they have to shut down.

I was also watching the British Sky news and it is amazing how different they are from the US news now. Saturdays the have kids giving the news and the kids were fairly critical of the US president for sending a mixed message about the virus and lock up.

Played D&D last night. We had most of the players there. Using Astral for the map and player sheets and Discord for audio chat. It took me a while to customize my character sheet on Astral but once I did I like it. You are able to import PDFs and the populate it with links that trigger actions on the server like attacks, rolling dice, skill checks, and spells. Actually pretty slick.

Had frozen pizza for supper, eggs for lunch. Worked on the garden a bit.

Ok, this is perhaps the strangest one yet. The CDC changed the ranges on the US cases to what seems like arbitrary ranges. Maybe they are trying to make certain states look bad and others look better?

Eau Claire just went from 28 to 34.

This is more of a showcase of how inconsistent the CDC has been with its maps than the progress of the illness.
